Osciple
Osciple is a sound toy built in Processing using the Beads synthesis library. Part 1D wave simulation, part additive synthesizer, Osciple fills all of some of your 1D wave simulation and additive synthesizer needs (depending on your needs). Click around aimlessly as the ripples transform into rolling sci-fi soundscapes, really futuristicy swoopy sounds and ever-so-rich harmonic drones. Then stop and move onto the next bit of internet pap. But it’s entertaining for a while at least. You can find it here. (more…)
Complete Me
“And what do you think this is?”, the creaky curator drones, her voice the same soporific, steady tone as the boiler in my flat. The blissful sensation of listening to its purr while enveloped in my duvet comes back to haunt me, and I wish I was still wrapped in its warm embrace. (more…)
Six Sentence Story – In the Bath
She stared through the lazily rising mist to the tap at the end of the bath and into the warped world within it, where a grotesquely distorted version of herself lay glaring back at her, tense in the warm lavender-scented waters. (more…)
Bryn – The Chrome Extension
Each year for my mate’s birthday present I have to come up with some more useless and humiliating than the last. Previous years presents have included Bryn – The VST and Bryn – The Screensaver. This year it’s Bryn – The Chrome Extension. Stated simply, it Brynifies your web experience. If ‘Brynify’ is a new word for you, the screenshots below should give you its meaning.
Fauxlosopy
As she speaks, clouds of mist tumble from her mouth, cling together for fleeting moments then dissipate into the crisp winter air.
“Look at this”, she says, eyes amusingly crossed as she focuses on the fresh billows bursting from her mouth. She brings her gloved hand up to point but in that short time the cloud has disappeared and she ends up pointing at empty space.
Six sentence story – Green Flash
My first attempt at a six sentence story. Slightly post-apocalypic, mostly just pretentious.
Stories
I’m trying to do more creative writing. I’ve tried in the past to get into it, but I’d always set my goal way way way too high (e.g. write a full novel), get half a page in, realise what a fucking fuck-load of work writing a full-blown novel is, and promptly quit. A couple of months ago though, someone posted about a six-sentence story project that was currently taking submissions. I thought writing six sentences can’t be that hard and gave it a go. It was a massively satisfying challenge trying to set a scene then tell a little story within it in just a few sentences, although admittedly they were pretty long ones. And the other plus being they were so short that I actually finished them, and for me finishing anything is rare. So now I’m slowly upping the word the count with the intention of eventually writing a short story (they’ve all been micro stories so far) – though let’s be honest I’ll probably never get round to it but I’d like to keep the illusion up as long as possible, even if the only person I’m fooling is myself.
Over the coming months I’m going to post my efforts, and please give as brutal criticism as you see fit. Bonus points for crudeness.
Mass video
Henning M. Lederer has created an incredible animation for the recent Mass/Clipper release on King Deluxe. I’m really into the mechanical, clockwork vibe: it really is pretty close to what I had in mind when writing the track.
Be sure to check out his vimeo page, especially the Machinatorium, which was the inspiration for the Mass video.
Massive thanks to Henning M. Lederer and his assistant Charlotte J. Vogel for creating this visual feast.
File Radio – Fixed
Apparently I’d uploaded a bogus version of File Radio which people were having issues running. It should be fixed now…
